Amin n waman

The water master — the customary office charged with the management of the irrigation network of an oasis settlement. The amin n waman schedules the rotation of water rights through the seguia network, supervises maintenance of the khettara galleries, mediates disputes between water-share holders, and represents the collective in negotiations with neighbouring communities sharing the same wadi. Selection is typically by the jma'a of inflas on annual or longer terms and the office is one of the most consequential customary positions in oasis governance.
