Dar

The Arabic term for house. In Moroccan usage dar covers everything from a modest urban dwelling to a substantial palace; the term is broadly synonymous with the Persian and Iranian khaneh and the urban Moroccan riad depends on whether the structure has a central garden courtyard. The southern Moroccan rural equivalent is the kasbah or tighremt; in the northern medinas the dominant form is the dar or riad.
